Breakfast & Dining

Yes — a full Yorkshire breakfast is included in every room rate. It is cooked fresh to order each morning on the Aga by Helen, using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. You can choose from a full cooked breakfast (eggs cooked your way, back bacon, sausages, black pudding, grilled tomato, mushrooms, and toast), continental options, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, and freshly brewed tea or coffee. We take our time over breakfast — it is not a buffet, it is a proper sit-down meal.

Yes, and we take it seriously. Helen has extensive experience catering for guests with coeliac disease and gluten intolerance. We stock dedicated gluten-free bread, sausages, and other breakfast items, and we take care to avoid cross-contamination in the kitchen. Please let us know at the time of booking so we can ensure everything is prepared safely for you. We can also recommend the best gluten-free friendly restaurants in Harrogate for your evening meals.

We cater for a wide range of dietary needs including vegetarian, gluten-free, coeliac, dairy-free, and nut allergy requirements. We ask that you let us know at the time of booking so we can prepare accordingly. We would rather know in advance than improvise on the morning — your safety and enjoyment at the breakfast table matters to us.

Location & Getting Here

Lamont House is on St. Mary's Walk in Low Harrogate, a 10-minute walk from Harrogate railway station and approximately the same distance from the town centre shops, restaurants, and the Royal Pump Room Museum. Valley Gardens is just a few minutes on foot, and the Stray — Harrogate's famous 200-acre parkland — is virtually on the doorstep. It is an ideal location for exploring the town without needing a car.

Yes. We provide free parking permits for on-street parking directly outside the property. Harrogate operates a residents' parking permit scheme in this area, and we supply guests with a permit for the duration of their stay at no extra charge. There is usually ample space on St. Mary's Walk and the surrounding streets.

Yes — Valley Gardens is a short stroll from the front door, and the Stray, Harrogate's iconic 200-acre protected parkland, runs along the edge of the road. Both are beautiful for a morning walk before breakfast or an evening stroll. It is one of the great pleasures of staying in Low Harrogate rather than the town centre.

A great deal. Within a 10–15 minute walk you have Valley Gardens, the Stray, the Royal Pump Room Museum, the Turkish Baths, Betty's Tea Rooms, the town centre shops and restaurants, and the Harrogate International Centre. The Great Yorkshire Showground is a short taxi or bus ride away. We are happy to share our personal recommendations — Mike and Helen have lived in Harrogate for decades and know the town extremely well.

Events & Special Visits

Yes. The Great Yorkshire Showground is approximately 2 miles from Lamont House — a short taxi ride or a pleasant cycle. We are a popular choice for guests attending the Great Yorkshire Show in July, Countryside Live in October, and other events at the showground throughout the year. We recommend booking well in advance for show dates as rooms fill up quickly.

Absolutely — the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival at the Old Swan Hotel is one of our favourite annual events, and we welcome many returning guests who come back year after year for it. The Old Swan is a 7-minute walk from Lamont House. The festival typically takes place in July; we recommend booking early as it is one of the busiest weeks of the year in Harrogate.

Harrogate is a year-round destination, but each season has its own character. Spring (April–May) brings the Harrogate Spring Flower Show and the gardens at their best. Summer (June–August) is the busiest period, with the Great Yorkshire Show in July and the Crime Writing Festival. Autumn is quieter and beautiful, with Countryside Live at the showground in October. Winter has a charm of its own — the Christmas markets, the Turkish Baths, and the cosy tea rooms make it a lovely short break destination.

We do not have cots or children's facilities as standard, but we are happy to discuss what we can arrange.

We are not able to accommodate pets at Lamont House, as we want to ensure the comfort of all our guests, including those with allergies. If you are travelling with a dog, we are happy to recommend pet-friendly accommodation nearby in Harrogate.

Yes — complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. The password is provided at check-in. We have found it more than adequate for streaming, video calls, and remote working.

Lamont House is a Victorian property and, as such, has stairs throughout. We do not have a lift. If you have specific mobility requirements, please contact us before booking so we can advise honestly on which rooms and areas of the property are most accessible for you. We want to make sure your stay is comfortable and that there are no surprises on arrival.

Booking & Policies

Yes — we require a minimum of two nights for all bookings. This allows you to properly settle in, enjoy a full Yorkshire breakfast at a relaxed pace, and make the most of everything Harrogate has to offer. For single-night enquiries, please call us directly on 01423 567143 and we will do our best to help if availability allows.

We offer free cancellation up to 7 days before your arrival date — no questions asked. Cancellations made within 7 days of arrival may be subject to a charge equivalent to the first night's stay. We understand that plans change, and we always try to be as flexible as possible — if something unexpected comes up, please contact us directly and we will do our best to help.

The best way to check availability is to contact us directly via our enquiry form or by calling 01423 567143. An enquiry puts you in touch with Mike and Helen personally — not an algorithm. You will receive the best available rate, can ask questions and make requests, and can arrange your stay directly with us. There are no booking fees and no middlemen.

Lamont House has been welcoming guests for over 30 years. It is run by Mike and Helen, who have lived in Harrogate for most of their lives and know the town and surrounding area intimately. They are the reason guests come back year after year — the warmth, the local knowledge, and the genuine care for every person who stays. It is not a chain, not a managed property, and not a faceless booking. It is a home that happens to have four very comfortable rooms.

We love welcoming guests back and always appreciate loyalty. If you are planning a longer stay or returning for a second visit, please get in touch directly — we will always do what we can. The best rates and the most flexibility come from booking direct with us rather than through a third-party platform.
